Marblehead Dog Park Mission
In 2006 the Recreation and Parks Department of the town of Marblehead
granted a parcel of land, adjacent to Reynolds Playground, to be used
as a dog park so that dogs could exercise, play and have fun off-leash
in a safe, enclosed environment. This proposed area would be the only
off-leash area designated by the Park and Recreation Department. Since
that time many people have worked hard and selflessly to raise the funds
necessary to design and construct an area for the dogs and dog owners
of Marblehead to enjoy. Due to the efforts of the Dog Park Committee
the plan is in full swing and should be available for “bare bones”
use in 2009. Those of you familiar with dog parks know how much the
animals love to romp and play in them and to watch this activity is
an enjoyment for all to behold.
We ask all Marbleheaders to support this effort and donate whatever
resources they can to make the dog park in Marblehead a wonderful place.
Existing dog parks in Chicago, Long Island, Texas, Florida, Somerville
and Peter’s Park (the proposed dog park for Boston’s south
end) are examples of what a dog park could and should be. Shaded areas
and benches, watering troughs and other amenities make all the difference.
Presently, as no Town funds may be used, we must limit our endeavors
to the grading, surface preparation and fencing, however, the design
plan and landscaping will include a wish list of future improvements
that will be contingent on the generosity of donors. The Marblehead
dog park will have ramp access.
